To Cycle or Not to Cycle…

While skin cycling certainly had its time in the spotlight last year, it has not completely faded away! Experts are saying that while skin cycling is great, more ‘advanced skin cycling’ is predicted to be big this year. Advanced skin cycling means that instead of following the traditional 4 night cycle of switching between an exfoliation night, retinol night, and 2 rest nights, that you can switch it up depending on your skin! This means that if your skin can tolerate higher doses, maybe add in a retinol every third day. Or if your skin is still super dry even after 2 rest days, maybe reducing retinol nights to once a week. Let’s see why dermatologist Dr. Hadley King loves the idea of customized skin cycling below:

“Those with sensitive skin may benefit the most from having recovery nights and limiting the nights for active ingredients. But because the cycle is entirely customizable, any skin type can benefit.”

Multi-Tasking Time Savers

It has been predicted that multitasking beauty is going to be big this year! Lucky for us, we have tons of 4-in-1 products with all different kinds of benefits ranging from SPF, hydration, smoothing, and more. Makeup that doubles as skincare is something that helps save you time and helps improve your skin, making it a win-win! Some of our favorite multitasking products include our 4-in-1 Pressed Mineral Powder that helps improve dark circles, redness, fine lines and wrinkles, and uneven skin tone, and our 4-in-1 Cloud Cream Gel-to-Water Hydrating Essence Moisturizer that hydrates, soothes, smooths, and primes the skin. See why Dr. King is a fan of our 4-in-1 products below:

“As our knowledge about and interest in skincare has increased, so has our appreciation for the potential benefits of active ingredients like peptides, retinol, niacinamide, antioxidants etc.  And so it makes sense that we don't want to use a product that is *only* a moisturizer when we can instead use a moisturizer that also offers additional benefits like anti-aging peptides and antioxidants, for example.”

Spotlight Ingredient

Ceramides are expected to be a popular ingredient in skincare and beauty products this year, and for good reason! Ceramide ingredients help hydrate and plump the look of skin while helping to strengthen the skins barrier. Ceramides are an ingredient that is included in PUR’s Proprietary Ceretin Complex that is made up of blend of Retinol, Lactic Acid, Shea Butter, and a Ceramide. This Complex can be found in several of our products, such as our 4-in-1 Love Your Selfie Longwear Foundation & Concealer, 4-in-1 Cloud Cream Gel-to-Water Hydrating Essence Moisturizer, and much, much more! See why Dr. King loves Ceramides below:

“Ceramides are thought to be the most important component for maintaining barrier function. When there are healthy moisture levels in the skin, it provides the best barrier to moisture loss.”

Sometimes, Less Really is More!

While having a 10-step skincare routine may be fun, dermatologists have spoken and say that it is not necessary! Choosing high quality products with effective ingredients is better for your skin than layering on too many products that don’t necessarily work together. Dermatologists say that a cleanser, such as Forever Clean Gentle Cleanser, a retinol/serum, such as Go with the Glow Niacinamide Drops, and a moisturizer, such as Get A Lift Firming Facial Cream Moisturizer, is enough to keep your skin in good shape! See what Dr. King has to say about skincare routines below:

“I think one reason this idea [of using less] has gotten so popular is that the popularity of skin care and active ingredients has exploded--with mostly good results, but there are many people who are overdoing it, or who have more sensitive skin and have been struggling with actives in their routine. So, this idea allows for the benefits of the actives while keeping it all more tolerable, decreasing the risk for irritation.”
