The Skin-loving Power of PUR Powder Products!

“Powder?” you may be thinking. “I thought the dewy, “Clean Girl” aesthetic was all the rage!” PUR is here to tell you that powder and dewy, hydrated-looking skin are not mutually exclusive. In fact, using powders to control excess oil is essential for helping to keep that glazed doughnut skin from slipping into possible greasy-looking territory. This week, we’re taking you through a few of our favorite powder products and our best tips for using each while avoiding the dreaded “cake face” look.

Powder Foundation:

When you wear it over little touches of concealer to smooth out uneven skin tone, PUR’s 4-in-1 Pressed Mineral Makeup Broad Spectrum SPF 15 Powder Foundation with Skincare Ingredients helps create a soft matte look that hews closely to your natural skin. This bestselling powder foundation is infused with skincare ingredients like Waltheria Extract to help brighten and smooth the appearance of an uneven skin tone and Shea Butter and Vitamin E to condition and moisturize skin.

Use a big, fluffy brush like our Skin Perfecting Foundation Brush to apply your 4-in-1 Pressed Mineral Makeup to your forehead, cheekbones, chin, and jaw for light-to-medium coverage. Matching your skin tone is the key to avoiding a cakey look, so make sure to use our Match Your Shade tool to get a powder that suits your skin overtones and undertones.

Setting Powder:

Setting powders like our 4-in-1 Loose Setting Powder help lock your foundation and other makeup into place so that you lose less coverage throughout the day. Our lightweight, blurring setting powder comes in translucent, banana and peach to work with neutral, warm, or cool undertones, and it’s infused with Rice Germ Extract to help protect skin from environmental stressors, as well as an Energy Complex that combines Green Tea, Ginseng, and Vitamin B to help rejuvenate the look of skin.

The key to powder application is placement: use a big fluffy brush to apply the setting powder under the eyes and in a line from your forehead, down the bridge of your nose, and to your chin. Take the powder and brush in on any part of your face that gets oily throughout the day. Then, brush away the excess to keep your look from getting too thick.

Bronzer:

Sun burn or tanning is not always the best for our skin—that’s why PUR 4-in-1 Tinted Moisturizer has SPF 20 and 4-in-1 Pressed Mineral Powder has broad spectrum SPF 15. But a little *glow* from the sun just looks so healthy and invigorated! A powder bronzer like Skin Perfecting Powder Bronzing Act is a great way to help do right by your skin and get that sun-kissed look at the same time.

With bronzing powder, the fear is that overly orange, Lindsay Lohan circa 2003 look. Avoiding pitfalls with your bronzer is all about applying it sparingly and building layers slowly. In other words, don’t overload your cheeks all at once. Apply the bronzer gradually with a fluffy brush to the high points of your face. You can also use Bronzing Act for your contour—check out our guide to all things contour here!

Blushes & Highlights:

From Simone Ashley’s glowing pink cheeks on Season 2 of Bridgerton to the flush-obsessed youths of TikTok, bright romantic blushes are really having a moment. Like eyeshadow, blush is fun because it comes with options, options, options! Try PUR’s Skin Perfecting Powders Blushing Act, our 4-in-1 Blush Book (psst—it’s on sale* right now!), or our PUR xo Nabela Embrace Your Face Eye & Cheek Palette (also on sale!!*) to play with peach, rose, and berry tones to your heart’s content.

For your best blush shade, you’re going to want a hue that matches as closely as possible the natural flush you get when you’re exercising. If you’re on the fairer side, this is probably going to be a pinker shade, and if your skin is darker you’ll probably look more toward the red end of the spectrum. The tried-and-true blush placement wisdom is to place it on the apples of your cheeks, but a C-shaped blush placement—from your cheekbone all the way up your temple—is great for round or square-shaped faces.

If you’re really going for a full-glam factor, complete your look with a glimmery highlight with Skin Perfecting Powder Afterglow Illuminating Powder. This sheer wash of illuminating color will help give your skin a luminous, healthy-looking glow as skin care ingredients like Green Tea help to minimize the appearance of fine lines and redness.

Use a fan brush to place Afterglow on the high points of your cheeks, the tip of your nose, and your décolleté. If you really want to amp up your glow, spritz your face and neck with Lit Mist Illuminating Setting Spray before you apply. Now you’re ready to glow and go with your powder-based look!
