Are You Using Too Much Product? A PÜR Guide to How Much Skincare Product You Really Need

When it comes to skin care, we seem to be living through a “more is more” moment. PÜR is all about #selfcare, so keep with your ten-step routine if that’s what helps you unwind. But how much of your cleanser, moisturizer, or SPF should you be using at a time? What about serum, toner, and a mask? Slathering on product like Instagram and TikTok creators, who are usually just trying to help you see what the product looks like, isn’t always what your skin needs. The right amount of product may be a little smaller than you’d expect, so read on for a PÜR guide to portioning out your skin care.

Cleanser

Are you pumping that cleanser a few too many times? Even though hitting that nozzle can be soothing on early mornings or late nights, you probably don’t need more than two pumps of See No More Deep Pore Cleanser or Forever Clean Gentle Cleanser to cover your face, neck, and chest area. It may look like a small amount in your palm, but don’t forget that your cleanser lathers up when you add water. A dime-size amount of these Green Tea, Ginseng, and Vitamin B-infused cleansers is all you need to help boost and invigorate the complexion and renew the skin’s appearance.

Toner

If you use a toner, face mist, or an essence, cotton rounds may have become a way of life. You might be able to cross cotton rounds off your grocery list, though: most toner products and other face sprays like Miracle Mist Hydrating Spray can be applied with your hands. Spray a quarter-size amount into your palm and gently pat it into your skin. Focus mainly on areas where you need extra hydration—no need to hit the whole face every time!

Serum

PÜR serum products like  Go with the Glow Niacinamide Drops and Hybrid Primer CBD Hydrating Priming Serum are packed with good-for-your-skin ingredients like brightening Niacinamide and skin-loving Turmeric, so a few drops will generally be enough. Drag a dime-sized amount of these skin-loving skin care products over your face, neck and chest area or dot your serum directly onto your forehead, cheeks, and chin. Make sure to gently rub your serum in until it’s completely absorbed into your skin!

Eye Cream

The face area is a small portion of your skin, and the eye area is an even tinier target! Use your ring fingers to pat a pea-sized amount of Tone Up Total Eye Fitness Serum or Hazy Daze CBD Soothing Eye Cream around your eye area to help reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, or dark circles. Don’t forget to take the product all the way around the eye—the undereye isn’t the only area that could use extra hydration!

Moisturizers

Is your change purse emptying out yet? A nickel-size amount of 4-in-1 Cloud Cream Gel-to-Water Hydrating Essence Moisturizer or Get a Lift Firming Facial Cream Moisturizer should be enough to thoroughly hydrate your face, but you can use a bit more if your skin is on the dryer side. Apply your morning or nightly moisturizer with gentle, upward massaging motions once your serum has completely absorbed into your skin.

SPF

Time for a plot twist: most people actually aren’t applying enough of this skin care staple. You’d need a shot glass full of sunscreen to cover your entire body, about two milligrams of product per square inch of skin. So don’t skimp on your 4-in-1 Tinted Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 20—a nickel-sized amount for just your face will help protect your skin from UV rays. Reapplying every two hours or so can help keep you in the clear this summer when the UV Index is in the intense or extreme range.

Face Oils

These itty-bitty portions are adorable, right? Only a few drops of a face oil like Melt Away Gel Oil Makeup Remover is plenty to cover your face and help provide much-needed hydration as you remove daily impurities.

Masks

Masks are great for going the extra mile for your skincare routine or bonding over how silly you look at a girls’ night, but you may need a little more of masks like Dirty Girl Detoxifying Face Mudd Masque with Pascalite Clay and PUR xo Nabela Reset Detoxifying Mask with Turmeric to get the job done right. Use enough of the product to create a thin layer on top of your face, neck, and/or chest area to get the most out of these detoxifying skin care favorites.
